2nd in Regionals

My son Ridge was second in the Arizona West 3A Regional tournament in Saturday. He wrestled twice, winning his first and losing his second match to Parker High School. He has wrestled this kid from Parker, AZ. twice before and beat him both times. My son did not wrestle well, and got down in points and could not come back to win.
Arizona State High School 3A finals are next Friday and Saturday (2-12 thru 2-13) His weight class will be a tough weight class (140lb). He has got his work cut out for him. We will learn what seed all of our wrestlers are this week some time.

  1. Hi Gary, I'm glad your son is doing so well with his wrestling. But, what about you? I imagine being a coach takes a lot of time and devotion. But, do you have other interests that are just about you? Just curious.

  2. Hi Gary,

Sometimes when you are involved in young people's sports, you are consumed by them. I know this from my years as a soccer mom. My son played varsity soccer and tennis, and my daughter played basketball in Middle School and soccer in high school. She also was a cheerleader, so I went to football & basketball just to make sure she did not break her neck with the gymnastics they performed as cheerleaders!

I remember once going to an out of town soccer tournament, driving alone in the rain to get there. Boy was I glad I went, since that was the night my son was knocked out cold during the game. I was so scared!

My son loves wrestling, although he never wrestled except with friends. One night I was visiting him and his roommates in his first apartment away from home and they were goofing off with wrestling moves. Oh my, I heard my son's head hit a wrought iron railing and I thought for sure he would suffer brain injuries. No, his head could take it from all the years of soccer!

I remember counseling him into soccer instead of football when he was just seven years old. Little did I realize how dangerous soccer was and how unprotected the players are compared to football.

I am rooting for your son!

  3. Gary looking at the picture made my head, neck and any parts that still move at my age ache. I took two tylenol I hope that helped him - I'm just trying to do my part in contributing to his wrestling career.
